She thumbed through her app screens until she found a game called Heimdal’s Horn. First person shooter based on the lore. It wasn’t the game she wanted to play. It was the sound of the gjallarhorn—both a warning call and call to battle. She made sure her phone was set to full volume and pressed the horn icon in the game. The sound emanated from the cell’s speakers and echoed between the buildings, rich and low. A deep baritone horn with a vibration that penetrated the soot, the grime and the veil. It was a Pavlovian response for all the gods. Sound the horn and they would come. From any part of the universe, in any condition, rising from hells and chaos of their own doings and heavens wherein they were forever worshipped. She felt the chatter of the squirrel vibrate in her chest and even more rich, the stretch and yawn of an awakening dragon.
